Project #1- The Headboard

So, a little back story. When we moved into this house in April, the most problem room was the master. Y’all. It. Was. Hideous. The walls were BRIGHT GREEN. Like, sea foam bright green. And not just the walls, but the ceiling!! WHO ON EARTH paints the ceiling?!?!?

Please feel free to click on these photos to enlarge them. You need to truly take in the whole picture. photo 4(8)You thought I was kidding… I was not.

photo 1(9)Oh, and did I mention the purple curtains? Yes. It was like the Little Mermaid. In my master bedroom. It had to go!! The Hubs and I slept in there one night. That was all we could take! We painted the walls a light gray and the ceiling white. Full disclosure, it came out a little lighter than I think I would have liked, but it was a true clean slate from the headache it was before. photo 5(7)And please ignore the mess… Remember we were moving!

The other major issue with our bedroom is that there are windows on three out of the four walls. The wall without the window has the door and closet on it, making the placement of our bed super difficult. We knew what we had to do… cover a window in the most kick butt way possible!

So, six months later, it’s TOM EUBANKS TO THE RESCUE!!!!!

I’ll write another post with instructions for the headboard, but here’s just a few sweet pics of the project! I can’t tell you how beautiful it is ๐Ÿ™‚ Like, totally in love. My Dad is the BEST. photo 5(5)

photo 3(5)

ย AAANNNDDDD…… Here is it!!!!

photo 1(8)Isn’t it beautiful? I mean, honestly, it’s just amazing. It covers up the window, ties the room together, and is just… just… perfect ๐Ÿ™‚ We still have a few things to add to the room like throw pillows and art on the walls, but I love it to much to wait to share it with you!!

Thanks Dad! You’re the best!!

Ok, so I just need to stop making these big announcements on a MONDAY that I’m going to blog every day that week. I mean, seriously. Talk about being blindly optomistic. Yesterday it didn’t happen, and today it almost didn’t either, thanks to a babe and his side-kick pup who both decided to vom and PLAY IN IT before I had even poured my cup of coffee… Ahh… Motherhood.

But, I powered through. I’ve even been able to *attempt* a yoga work out video (no thanks to the overly concerned pup,) and do three loads of laundry (no thanks to the babe who has REFUSED TO TAKE EVERY NAP TODAY). I mean for realz, WHAT is in the water?!?!?!

In case anyone is having a rough “Mom Day” like me, here are some pretty things to help wrap up your Wednesday!

As many of you know from FB, my parents came for the weekend and we had several major DIY projects to conquer. So before they came, I did a few little decor wreaths to use.ย  Allow me to introduce you all to my latest masterpieces!

This first one was inspired by a wreath in the book, The Nesting Place that was posted on Jen Hatmaker’s blog. I used an old Bible, and it turned out AWESOME. This would be Genesis through Ezekiel. It’s. That. Huge. photo 5(1)On Jen’s blog she talked about how long it took. I was on episode three of Star Trek and was like, “WHAT are these people complaining about? This is going so quick!! And I haven’t burned myself once!!” I burned myself literally the second I thought that. And 7 episodes later…ย  I was thinking the same thing. It took sssssoooooooooooo long, but was it soooo worth it!! photo(9)And now it hangs in our bedroom. The bare bare walls are finally getting some attention. It makes my heart happy ๐Ÿ™‚ photo 4(2)

And I couldn’t just leave a half used Bible… I had to do SOMETHING with Ezekiel through Revelations! So, last minute I made a smaller one for the living room! You’ll see that on the big living room reveal post!

This next wreath also went in the living room. Just a simple grapevine wreath, ribbon, a fall pick, and a wooden letter (which I bought to go on a wreath right after we married and has been on every wreath since then ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I LOVE the yellow burlap. Yay fall!!! photo 1(5)photo 2(4)photo 3(1)One thing that I did differently with this wreath was that I attached everything with floral wire instead of hot glue. (Still recovering after the last project.) That way when the seasons and holidays change, I can switch out the pick and ribbon color. Yeessss…. less work later!!!

Hoorrayyyy!!! You have now finished Wednesday! Wrap up everything, get you a celebratory October 1st pumpkin item, and bask in the thought that the week is half over!!! I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to a week at home with my man in my AWESOME living room!!! Hopefully I’ll get that post up in the next week or so.

See what I did there? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh If I Had Only Known

It’s Monday. Y’all, I can’t believe we made it. I don’t know where the time went, I don’t know what happened, but somehow we survived.

It was a week of explosive poo, no husband, baby and mama had a cold, trying to get ANYTHING done and failing, friends being awesome, LOTS of love from a special friend, and just a few tears. Then came Friday. The blessed grandparents arrived.

180 degree transition to DIY projects, trips to Home Depot and Lowe’s, fighting the Tulsa State Fair (yes, I address it) traffic right outside my house, hosting a garage sale, painting a living room, power tools, the hubs coming home, sawdust, dirt, stain, smelly dog, explosive poo from the babe, pizza, football, “I love you”s, and a few more tears.

To say I’m exhausted is an understatement. I should be ashamed of how much Daniel Tiger and Curious George we’ve watched today, but I’m not. We’re going to watch even more when Lu wakes up from his nap. I have actually dozed off twice while writing this. True story.

If you read my post from 6 days ago, it’s filled with so much optimism and excitement for the week. Oh if I could only warn that sweet naive girl and give her a reality check… Somehow prepare her for things to come…

Each day on the blog this week, I’m going to be highlighting a moment, person or project from the previous week. One of the things on my to-do list was blog every day last week, so I’m making up for it now. ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope you come back each day to enjoy the stories of love and grace, DIY photos and instructions, and moments of hilarity. Happy Monday everyone!!! Here’s to a great week!

The Dining Room Table

We have a great 4 person kitchen table that was a hand me down given to us by some sweet friends in Denton. I think that I’ll always have this table somewhere in our house no matter how large our family gets! I love this table!

When we set up our dinning area, everything was just a little dark to me. I knew the table needed a facelift, so here we go….

photo(18)photo 1(25)photo 2(21)photo 4(16)photo 5(12)

So this project went so well. Completely according to plan! Woo hoo! Or so I thought.

People. Do. Not. Rush. A. Project.

I was so thrilled with how it turned out and was so excited to get this table into the house that I used super thick coats of shellack to seal it and didn’t allow enough time for it to dry. I gave it 8 hours. I should have given it at least 12 hours overnight…

So this happened. photo 1(26)All. Over. The. Table.

So what do I do? I call my Dad, duh. And now I have to sand down the finish and redo it. I’ll be more careful this time. However, I won’t have time to do this for quite a while, so I need a solution until I can fix it and paint the chairs to match.

Thank goodness for Target! I love me a cute table cloth! However I can’t STAND an uneven table cloth. Have you ever tried to straighten a circular table cloth on a smaller table? It’s impossible. No matter what you do, there is always a side that is longer than other. Every single time!! By the end of it I’m like, “Oh, I know it’s uneven. It’s called art.”

I’ve come up with a solution to make sure it looks great each time. I’m sure everyone knows this, but I just discovered it. I’m a slow learner…

photo 2(22)Fold in half… photo 3(22)Fold in half again….

photo 4(17)Make a tiny, tiny dot on the corner! Now you have a marker to make sure you’re “centered” every time!!!

photo 5(13)And BOOM. photo 3(23)While the facelift didn’t go as planned, it still looks beautiful to me! Woo hoo!!! Once the weather is cooler, it’ll be Round #2 for the table and chairs!!

CHRISTMAS!!! (in july)

So I’m in trouble. BIG trouble. I was just browsing on Pinterest last night, minding my own business, when I stumbled upon the latest Christmas DIY Pins. Y’all. I went crazy.

Full apologies to those that follow me in Pinterest. I have been and will be pinning all weekend. I’m SO EXCITED FOR CHRISTMAS. I’ve already planned out how I’ll be decorating my entire house and a few Christmas gifts. I know, I know. It’s July. But PEOPLE. Hobby Lobby already has Christmas things out for people like me ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t get over these…. I’m seriously considering bringing back the Blu Art Co. Christmas Shop! However, when I did this a couple years ago, I had WAY to much crap to sell. I’m definitley pairing down this year and may offer like, 5 items. OH MY GOSH THAT’S GOING TO BE SO HARD!!!

A few of my favorites from last night:

b9bf595999a63e369f4d886c92661e17I mean, how cool is this for those that don’t have a fireplace? 72dbabf24bac71e8e0933eee22389da1Precious as a centerpiece….

292c479520a9d3b3361b5e6e51895babROSEMARY NAPKIN RINGS. I need to buy a Rosemary bush STAT.

So excited about the possibility of starting this up again! Of course, when I told The Hubs he was all… “And hooooow much is this going to cost us?” To which I replied, “If i start now, it won’t show up on the December budget!” Hahah….

So, I have a few questions that I need your help with.

What is your favorite handmade (by you or someone else) Christmas item in your home?

What is your favorite item to give?

When do you usually buy your online Christmas presents by?ย Thanks guys!!!

“Worship” Canvas DIY

Finally got to work on a project for the guest room!ย  When I thought about redoing this project for the guest room, it took me FOREVER to figure out what colors to do. I’m not a huge fan of the color pallet we have going on now, but it’s what I’ve got to work with! So, I decided to go with something that could transition easily with whatever decor I chose to do next.

Originally I did this for Baby Lu’s nursery in Denton. The idea was that during the long crazy nights, when The Hubs and I were exhausted, we could see these canvases above his bed and remember to find joy in the situation. We each picked a line or two from our favorite worship songs from church.

This is how they originally looked… GR01

Unfortunately, the colors of the guest room walls are the EXACT color of the canvas… so they couldn’t stay that way.

I spray painted them gray and used a white paint pen. And also used my favorite thing- transfer paper ๐Ÿ™‚

A little side story… I started working on this canvas while watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 for the 1000th time. After the second photo on the top row (see below), I had to stop for like 10 minutes while I sobbed. Not just the sweet, “one tear runs down the cheek withย  muffled noises” sob. We’re talking curl up into a ball on the floor and rock back and forth as all makes sense in this magical world and you realize this was the moment when your childhood ended beacause this story was so much more than a little boy who basically went to magic camp but the story of a man who truly loved a woman and gave his life for her memory…

GR03*Whew, ok, back to the real world…*

Over the next few days of nap times I was able to wrap this thing up! Yay for nap time! And Harry Potter ๐Ÿ™‚

GR04“Only The Blood”

GR05“Our God is Able”

And my favorite….

GR06“How Great The Love”

Seriously… that last one gives me chills every time

GR07So yep! Here it is! Love love love it ๐Ÿ™‚

What do y’all think?

Laundry Room DIY #1

So I’ve been looking for a few things to make to add a little bit of love to the laundry room. So far, my mom bought me an adorable rug, but the walls needed a few things. Thank you Pinterest!! I have three or four ideas for now, so we’re going one at a time. Here’s the first!

I wanted to go off of something like this…

KEEP THE CHANGE Laundry room decor by shoponelove on Etsy

However, I wanted to stick with stuff I had around the house. This was round 1… photo 1(13)I used an old bored and drew some doodles to match the rug. However, I hated it. So… I painted it again, and went with a more simple design. Plus, I hated reinforcing the idea that I deserve “tips” I dunno…I just feel a little off about it…

So, I found this design, repainted with leftover paint, printed the design, got some transfer paper and voila!!

photo 4(10)nro;uba I painted the letters and outlined it with a fine tip Sharpie to give it some definition.

I used a jar from around the house and secured it with some wire. The only thing I bought was the basket. Yay for Target’s “back to school” section!!

photo 2(13)photo(13)

Yay! Can’t wait to make then next few pieces and share them!
